Elder Cox Going Home 6/26/18

My previous companion, Elder Cox, finished the mission this week and we took him to the airport in McAllen,Texas in the heavy rain! When we tried to cross the water was soooo deep from all the rain and it was a miracle that we could pass. The water was going up past the tires and all the other cars were shutting off.  We just kept going and we finally made it through and oh man it was so crazy! After we dropped him off we couldn’t get back home so we went and got some breakfast while the rain settled down haha! I am going to miss him a ton, but I will see him soon in Utah! Now I’m in a triple companionship with Elder Gonzales who is my comp also Elder Cisneros. The rain picture was right before it started raining really hard!

Great Week! 6/25/18

Well this week was super great! First thing is the baptism of the dad of the family Lopez! Now the whole family are baptized and they are going to church! It was such an awesome day! I went to the baptism with Elder Spencer who was my companion at the time when the first half of the family got baptized! We went and he wanted to be baptized in the open water so we got to do it in a big river! He was super happy and the family is doing super great! We made a really good barbeque type thing called Discada which is just like a ton of meats grilled together! It had chicken, steak, sausage, bacon and other things and it is super good! We had the baptism in a place called Sugar Lake! It’s this really famous fishing place and they have fishing competitions from all over the world! 

 

The rest of the week I was working in the zone of Miguel Aleman and it was super fun other than my bike seat was super old and underly padded haha. On Sunday I had to help in the branch in the primary class and it was super fun and crazy, but we taught them the Golden Rule! “Do unto others what you would like done unto you!” 

Today we are moving things from the offices in the morning and also from the mission president’s house. Some workers from the church are moving the big stuff to Monterrey and then probably sometime this week we will go with the rest of the stuff.

Be Anxiously Engaged in a Good Cause A Letter To Elder Hawley 6/25/18

Hi Elder,

How are you doing? How was your rainy week? How much rain do you think you had? Did you have many issues because of the rain?

We are doing well. Just trying to survive the summer and all the heat. Nothing compared to your heat and humidity though for sure! Some nights really cool down which makes it nice. Nothing much happened this week. Dad and Malia recovered from Trek...now we are just working on the clean up. Malia's singing group "Inspire" got the opportunity to try out and perform at Bountiful's Got Talent. They did well. A girl that sang in Madrigals with Megan took first. She did an awesome job. The Hodgson boys, Kearsa, and Jake performed in their band for the last time for a while. Jake is moving to Pennsylvania for Medical School. Keeton is moving to Washington for work, Kyler is engaged and is getting married in September, and Kearsa has a serious boyfriend who also plays guitar in the band. We saw Jacinda there too. She said to tell you "Hi" and she is so excited that you are coming home soon.

D&C 58:26 For behold, it is not meet that I should command in all things; for he that is compelled in all things, the same is a slothful and not a wise servant; wherefore he receiveth no reward. 27 Verily I say, men should be anxiously engaged in a good cause, and do many things of their own free will, and bring to pass much righteousness; 28 For the power is in them, wherein they are agents unto themselves. And inasmuch as men do good they shall in nowise lose their reward.

Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

D&C 19:23 Learn of me, and listen to my words; walk in the meekness of my Spirit, and you shall have peace in me.

Trek 2018 & Revelation A Letter To Elder Hawley 6/18/18

Hey Elder,

What's up? Sounds like you are going to be super busy with lots of work coming up.

Dad says, "Malia and I went to Trek this last week. It was super great. It was very hot, windy, and dusty. We both got blisters on our feet. We walked a long way. It was so worth it though. We felt the spirit very strong. I also bought a black powder rifle so we could shoot at Trek. It is super fun. We will have to go shooting when you get back."  Hopefully you are able to view the pictures in your email.

Mom and Miles had fun at home together for three days. We played games and ate pizza, went to Spaghetti Factory, and went and saw the movie, "Incredibles 2". The first time we went, the fire alarm went off. It was a false alarm, but the alarm wouldn't shut off so they gave everyone free movie vouchers. We went back later and saw the movie. It was really good and very funny! Miles says we will watch it when you come home. We will have to catch up and watch movies you've missed!

Thoughts and scripture for this week..."In coming days, it will not be possible to survive spiritually without the guiding, directing, comforting, and constant influence of the Holy Ghost.

Revelation (guide, how to)

Find a quiet place where you can regulary go. Humble yourself before God. Pour out your heart to your Heavenly Father. Turn to Him for answers and for comfort.

Pray in the name of Jesus Christ about your concerns, your fears, your weaknesses-yes, the very longings of your heart. And then listen! Write the thoughts that come to your mind. Record your feelings and follow through with actions that you are prompted to take. As you repeat this process day after day, month after month, year after year, you will "grow into the principle of revelation".

Ephesians 1:17 "That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him."

No letter this week but Elder Hawley said, “We got our house all moved and it is going great, I love the new house! For the most part everyone (all 12) are getting along.”

Let Your Light Shine A Letter to Elder Hawley 6/11/18

Hi Elder,

How are you? How was your week? Are you surviving the heat wave there? We had high 90's last week too. It cooled down in the 70's over the weekend which was soooooo nice!!! It looks like you are going to get a lot of rain these next two weeks! Which will be a good change.

We made it through another crazy week last week. Life is just so busy. This week is Trek so that brings a whole other week of busy to getting ready for that. So we are getting Dad and Malia ready to go. They leave Wednesday and will be home Saturday. So pray that all goes well for everyone on Trek.

Something to ponder this week which you are doing well on your mission. We all need to think about these simple childlike ways of Letting Our Light Shine each and every day. Jesus Christ taught His followers that they were “the light of the world.” He said that when you light a candle, you should put it on a candlestick so it will give light to everyone in the room. He said, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” (Matt. 5:14–16.)

One way of letting your light shine is being a good example to others. When other people see your good example, they will know you love Heavenly Father and they will want to honor Him, too. We can let our lights shine by keeping the commandments. When we are honest, when we keep the Sabbath holy, when we are kind, we are letting our lights shine. Each small light makes a big difference!

There is another way we can let our lights shine. Elder Henry B. Eyring said he never told one of his friends about the gospel. One day, he heard that his friend had died. Elder Eyring sometimes wonders if he will meet his friend in heaven and his friend will say, “You knew. Why didn’t you tell me?” Now Elder Eyring shares his testimony with people all over the world. When we share the gospel with others, we are letting our lights shine. We can be good examples.

We can share our testimonies with others. We can be missionaries now by inviting our friends to church. Our faith in Jesus Christ will grow when we let our lights shine.

Another Week Bites the Dust! 6/04/18

 

 Wow the time is flying by so fast! I cannot believe we are already in June again! These last two weeks have been super full of work and fun!

 

 

 

 

 

 

Last week was great because we were helping out in an old area that I was in. It was super fun because I got to see some old converts! They are doing super great and they went to the temple this last weekend! We also had a super fun activity with all the branch. We played soccer!

Last Monday we went to Rio Bravo to play soccer against the zone there and we totally won like 8-1. The office team, we are like the best in the mission haha, so we just go around to all the parts of the mission challenging whoever thinks they can take us to have a little fun!

This week we were working with the secretaries.  We were helping them because they are going to be having some baptisms, and they needed some help! One of the families was an inactive family that we had been teaching. Their oldest daughter just got baptized and they are going to church again! It had been a super long time since they had been going to church, but it was super awesome to see the dad in church with his family and they looked so happy!

The sun is hotter than ever and they say that this year is going to be a super-hot one! I was talking to another missionary and they said in his house in another part of Mexico the stoplights were melting from the sun being so hot! But we are hanging in there! I am staying kind of cool. I am always using a hat and still getting a little burned. Sunscreen just runs off.
